Redwood CreekHiking earlier in the day I had scouted this location. Then, as the light faded in the foggy twilight of a coastal sunset, I ran back out the trail to do some long exposures of the creek. This babbling brook is located in Limekiln State Park in Big Sur California.
Lambent DamnationThese beautiful rays were imbued with a rufescent glow by the myriad of fires burning in California and Oregon. This majestic redwood forest lies along the Damnation Creek trail in Northern California.

Tranquility FallsJust another stunning waterfall-filled gorge in Oregon. Typically, long exposures are created with the use of a filter to block light. However, having hiked into this location without bringing one, I decided to try another technique. I simulated the effect of a long exposure by taking nearly 100 photos and stacking them to smooth the flowing water.
Glowing Rhododendron (untitled)Just before sundown, a ray of light pierced the canopy to illuminate the ancient trunk of an old-growth redwood. As the light faded and the bird-song dwindled the forest darkened, and I was left alone to hike back in the dark. This scene was captured in Redwood State and National Parks in Northern California.
