When I heard there was a chance of a strong aurora and immediately decided to make a journey. I knew I needed to find an epic location, and the farther north I went the better it would be. After a seven-hour drive I finally reached the rim of Crater Lake. With excitement building, I strapped on my snowshoes and trekked several miles through the snow to find the perfect spot. As night fell, the largest geomagnetic storm in twenty years lit the sky with vibrant greens, purples, and reds. The still surface of the lake mirrored the stunning aurora, creating an awe-inspiring double display. From sunset until four in the morning, I stared at the sky in awe, and pressed the shutter button as fast as I could. Spending that night alone, on the edge of a cliff, witnessing such a unique display of our planet's magnetic forces, made all my efforts completely worth it.
